The Red Sox have really bottomed out offensively. They have now scored 6 runs in their last 4 games. Their problems continue against LHP, as a team that is 17 games over .500, is now just 10-9 against LHP. They had one offensive explosion against Arizona vs. a leftie, but other than that, the last four have seen them plate a total of four runs. Francona has taken desperate measures, trying Drew in the leadoff spot last night because in the past week Cora (.167), Crisp (.160) and Lugo (.125) have done nothing. The fact is 7 of the 9 spots in the order are now below their season average in the latest slide. Zito is not just a LHP - he is a tough one. He has allowed one earned run or less in his last four starts, and 3 or less in 10 of 13. Taveras will try to stop the bleeding for the Red Sox, but his 5+ ERA is not a good remedy. Have to go against a cold team with their No. 5 starter going against a legit No. 1, especially when you are on the plus side of the money line.
