San Diego defeated the Pirates 3-2 on Friday night, but the Padres are still 18-28 on the season and in last place in the NL West and they are 7-10 on the road while Pittsburgh is 15-7 at home. Clayton Richard is 2-5 with a 5.20 ERA and especially has struggled away from Petco Park as he is 1-3 with an 8.36 ERA on the road. It was the same story last year when Richard was 1-8 away from home with a 5.34 ERA and he gave up eight runs (four earned) on 12 hits in 12 innings against the Pirates. Rookie Nick Kingham will make his third start and in his one appearance at home he pitched seven scoreless innings while giving up just one hit in a 5-0 win over St. Louis. Pittsburgh has won eight of the last 11 meetings at home and the Pirates have won five of their last six against left-handed starters. Take the Pirates.
