The San Diego Padres have perhaps been the most under achieving team in baseball this season. San Diego spent a lot of money to become a contender this year, but have failed to even play .500 baseball so far. That cost manager Bud Black his job, but the level of play has not changed as the Padres are 0-2 since his firing, and have now dropped three straight games. Jesse Chavez has not won a lot this year, but he has pitched to an ERA of 2.62, and if he keeps doing that the wins will come. San Diego brings a 2-10 record into this one as a road dog from +151 to +200 in their last 12. The A's have been one of the best at 100-46 in their last 146 interleague home games, so back the home team in this one.
