Los Angeles has won eight of the past nine meetings with the Padres, who are all but eliminated in the playoff race as they are eight games out of a wild-card spot. San Diego has lost four of six following Sunday's 12-2 rout by Houston and Pedro Avila will start tonight. Avila had allowed 11 runs (six earned) in two outings before pitching six-plus scoreless innings against Philadelphia on Tuesday. The Dodgers will counter with Gavin Stone, who is making his first start since May 28. San Diego has lost nine of 11 road games and the Padres are 7-22 their past 29 games as underdogs.
