We would take this wager at these odds all day long. No disrespect for Brad Penny as his early-to-mid season last year was about as good as it gets. But the problem is the before and after haven't been much. His first 20 starts he allowed 2 runs or less in 17 of them. His last 16 starts he allowed 3+ in 11 of 16, more like what his career has been. He is a 4+ ERA pitcher over the past couple years that had a 2 ERA stretch of games, so now he is considered by many to be on the same level as Peavy. This is far from the truth. Penny has struggled against the Padres, as he is just 3-7 lifetime with a 5.63 ERA. Jake Peavy is the real goods. In two of his last three seasons he has posted an ERA in the 2's, and has started fast this season as well. He has given the Dodgers fits, as he is 10-1 with a career 2.21 ERA. The Pads are 21-8 in their last 29 games after scoring 3 runs or less in back-to-back games. We will gladly take this game with these odds.
