The San Diego Padres evened their series with the Red Sox last night in Fenway with a 5-4 win, as the pen shut the door down the stretch. The Red Sox had hoped for so much more from Jon Lackey, but approaching the age of 33, he looks to have his best innings behind him. Lackey is pitching on reputation now as his ability to get out big league hitters comes into question with his king-size 7.02 ERA on the season. The Padres may be 1-6 in Clayton Richard's last seven starts, but he has allowed three runs or less in six of the seven and, with they way Lackey is going these days, that will certainly be good enough to keep them in striking distance. I am backing San Diego on the runline.
