I think that most would consider the fact that St. Louis would be struggling into early May without Albert Pujols in the lineup, and Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright with a combined one win. The fact is their pitching is ranked No. 2 in all of baseball. The Pirates have not bolstered their lineup, but the pitching is really good, ranking No. 8 in MLB entering early May. Eric Bedard is a big reason, and despite a 1-4 record he has pitched to a 2.48 ERA, but the Pirates’ bats aren't good enough to get him wins.
