Beating my head against a wall? Maybe. But, still think the picks against the Pirates were solid and sticking with what my handicapping tells me despite two losses. As I said yesterday, horrible road teams in the MLB rarely win two in a row on the road. They win 3 in a row even less. It's unfathomable to me that Pitt would win three in a row against the Giants at home. And, with Jason Schmidt on the mound to avoid the sweep, I feel even better about this pick. Schmidt comes in with a 2.53 overall ERA, 2.15 at home and 0.83 over his last three starts against Colorado and Florida. In those three starts, he averaged 7.2 innings per start and allowed 2 earned runs while notching 32 strikeouts. Paul Maholm goes for Pittsburgh and I don't see him blanking the G-Men as happened yesterday. Malholm has a 5.68 road ERA and horrible 2+ WHIP. Pittsburgh is 4-18 on the road after two road games this season and 4-17 in day games. After yesterday's loss, the Giants are 8-1 following a close loss by two runs or less this year. It's just crazy that Pitt has won two straight on the road. Three in a row against Jason Schmidt? Can't imagine it.
