Pittsburgh at Detroit

The Detroit Tigers have slipped out of the top spot in the AL Central, but it is just a matter of time before they take comntrol again. They have a rotation comprised of the last three AL Cy Young Award winners, and one of them is on the hill today in Max Scherzer. Scherzer had a horrible outing, allowing 10 runs back in the middle of June, but he has been lights-out since, going nine straight starts of allowing 3 runs or fewer, including eight at 2 runs or less. Pittsburgh will go with Francisco Liriano, who has pitched somewhat better than his 3-8 record on the season as it is backed by a 3.82 ERA. He has never had success against his former division rival Tigers, as his career numbers are poor. Liriano has a career 5.99 ERA against the Tigers in 24 appearances, 17 of which were starts. It's hard to go against Scherzer's home starts that have led to a 43-12 mark in the last 55 games he has taken the mound here. Play on Detroit.
