The Miami Marlins made a lot of progress this season, and kept themselves in the race a lot longer than most expected. They can only wonder what they could have accomplished if ace Jose Fernandez didn't go down for the season early on. Henderson Alvarez has picked up the slack to anchor the staff, and has turned in a great season at 12-6 with a 2.82 ERA on the season. Cole Hamels has pitched as well as ever, but the wins have been hard to come by with a team that has a pedestrian, at best, offense. Alvarez has been extra tough on the Phillies' sub-par offense, pitching to an ERA under 2 for his career against them. Hamels has been least effective when pitching on an extra day of rest where the Phillies are 7-15 in his last 22. Alvarez has led the Marlins to a 7-0 record against a losing team at home. Take the home dog Miami.
