Texas got a much-needed win on Saturday as the Rangers try to stay alive in the playoff race after leading the division for most of the season and now they are three games back. Robbie Grossman scored the tiebreaking run on a wild pitch in the seventh and Oakland now is 20-51 on the road and Texas is 44-30 at home. Jon Gray has a 3.85 ERA and 1.25 WHIP and the Rangers have won his past two starts. Gray has started twice against the Athletics in 2023 and allowed only three earned runs on nine hits in 13 1/3 innings and Oakland hitters are just 7-for-60 for a .107 batting average with one homer against Gray. Luis Medina is 3-8 with a 5.46 ERA and the Athletics have lost his past three starts as he has given up eight runs (seven earned) in 11 2/3 innings. Texas has won eight of the past 11 meetings.
