The New York Yankees appeared dead in the opening game in the ALCS, but a 5-run uprising in the eighth pinned the 10th consecutive postseason loss on the Rangers at the hands of the Yankees. If anything can take the juice out of a team finally breaking through, that was it. The Yankees go with Phil Hughes today and after a shaky stretch, he has come back to life. After being extended to five games, the Rangers have to wait for game three to send Cliff Lee to the mound so opt for Colby Lewis, who had a losing record on the season and is in a tough spot today. Overall, the Rangers were just 10-18 in Lewis' last 28 starts. The Yanks have put together a 24-10 mark behind Hughes in his last 34 starts, and 24-8 on grass. The Rangers are just 1-10 in Lewis' last 11 starts after they allowed 5+ the game before. The Rangers are also 19-6-1 behind Lewis when hey allowed the opponent 5+ in the previous game. The Rangers are 7-2 to the UNDER in their last nine playoffs games. Phil Hughes gets his share of disrespect but this guy pitched to a 3.57 ERA on the road this season and a 1.86 ERA in his last three starts. Colby Lewis has pitched to a 1.69 ERA in his last three starts. He's 16-7 UNDER this season when the total has been between 8.5 and 10. With Ron Washington at the helm, the Rangers are 41-25 UNDER at home in day games. Meanwhile, the Yankees are 20-5 UNDER in their last 25 in the 2nd game of a playoff series! The Yankees win this game and come in UNDER the total.
