The Yankees have more to play for, trying to catch AL East leader Toronto. Carlos Beltran and Brian McCann homered yesterday in a 5-0 victory, part of an 11-4 run on the road. The Yankees are second in baseball in runs scored and third in slugging. Yankees starter C.C. Sabathia is coming off one of his best outings, having held Tampa Bay scoreless over 6+ innings on Monday. Sabathia is 3-2 with a 3.49 ERA in six career starts against the Mets, and the Yankees are 13-5 when he makes an interleague start. The Yankees are 7-1 on the road against a right-handed starter and face righty Matt Harvey. The catch is that the New York Mets aren't sure how many more starts or innings they want Harvey to throw down the stretch. He is making his first start since September 8, when he endured a nightmare outing by allowing seven runs and eight hits over 5 1/3 innings at Washington. The Mets rank 19th in baseball in runs scored and are 1-4 at home against a team with a winning record. The Mets are comfortably ahead in the NL East over Washington, so they can afford to rest some players. Finally, the Yankees are 39-17 in interleague games vs. a team with a winning record, including 25-12 on the road against a team with a winning record, so grab the hungry live dog with the powerhouse offense. Play the New York Yankees.
