The NL West was supposed to be a fight between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, but the Giants have emerged with the lead by four games over the Dodgers as we head for the home stretch. The Giants' 76-42 record is the best in baseball. One reason for the success has been tonight's starter, Kevin Gausman. Gausman, through eight MLB seasons, had never finished with his team having a winning record in his starts. This year he has had a breakout season with the Giants 15-8 in his 23 starts. The Mets lost control of their lead in the NL East as they have faltered to a 4-12 record in their last 16 games. They have allowed five runs or more in nine of the 16 games, and they have not scored more than five runs in any of the 16 games. Make the play on San Francisco.
