Miami and Washington are battling to stay out of last place in the NL East and the Marlins have won five of their past nine, while the Nationals have lost six of 10. Sandy Alcantara has pitched better than his 8-13 record, as he owns a 3.24 ERA and comes off a spectacular performance on Wednesday when he allowed one run on four hits in nine innings of a 2-1, 10-inning victory against the Mets. Paolo Espino gave up five runs on seven hits in five innings against Atlanta his last outing, and he has allowed 23 runs in 29 2/3 innings the past six weeks.
