Miami has lost four in a row and the last three were against Arizona, which is in last place in the NL West. San Diego has won five of seven after splitting a doubleheader with Cleveland on Thursday and the Padres are just one game behind the Dodgers in the competitive NL West. San Diego has averaged 6.7 runs its last seven games and that is impressive in a season when offenses have struggled. Nick Martinez gets the start and he has given up nine runs in 19 2/3 innings with 18 strikeouts. Only two Miami hitters have ever faced him. Jesus Luzardo is pitching better this year for the Marlins, but he had an 8.46 and 1-5 record on the road in 2021. Miami is 19-46 its past 65 road games and 7-19 its past 26 games versus right-handed starters. Take the Padres.
