Los Angeles at St. Louis

Los Angeles was bombarded by St. Louis hitters on Thursday as the Cardinals exploded for seven home runs and destroyed the Dodgers 16-8. Fortunately for the Dodgers they have Tony Gonsolin going today and he has a 1.42 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in four starts this season and he pitched five shutout innings on two hits in five innings against San Diego on Sunday. Gonsolin was undefeated on the road last season with a 7-0 record and his counterpart tonight is Steven Matz, who is 0-4 with a 5.62 ERA and 1.61 WHIP this season. Matz has allowed 20 runs on 35 hits in 25 1/3 innings in five night games in 2023. Los Angeles still has won seven of its past nine games and the Dodgers have bounced back to be 32-13 after allowing at least five runs their previous game and they are 63-26 their past 89 games following a loss.
