Cesar Vargas has had only bad outing in five appearances and he allowed two runs in five innings with seven strikeouts at Milwaukee last Sunday. The right-hander has given up just two runs in 11 innings at Petco Park this season and he shutout the Dodgers for 5 1/3 innings on April 29. Alex Wood is 0-3 with an 8.05 ERA on the road allowing 17 earned runs in 19 innings with a .318 opponent batting average. The Padres have won three of the last four meetings and the Dodgers have lost three in a row and five of their last six games overall. Back the home underdog Padres.
