Jason Vargas may be one of the most unheralded good pitchers in baseball for the Seattle Mariners. He has pitched to an ERA of under 4 for the past 2+ years and has improved upon that this season. Despite the fact that Seattle is a losing team, he has a better than .500 record over the period. Pitching at home has landed him with a 2-0 record and 1.27 ERA, so the Mariners are going to be a live dog here, especially vs. the light-hitting Angels. The Angels’ pitching staff has allowed just 11 runs over their last six games, which is less than 2 per contest. One would think that they would have won all of them, or at least 5 out of 6, but they are 3-3. It is a testament to their unproductive offense. Solid pitching on both sides with a pair of poor offenses dictates UNDER. Dan Haren has not produced a win in his last eight starts on regular four day’s rest. Vargas saves his best work for home, and the M's are 4-0 in his last four starts as a home dog. Play on Seattle, and the UNDER.
