The Royals lost here last night 4-2, but have been fighting hard. Over their last nine games, they have been competitive throughout, producing a 4-5 record, but have not lost any of them by more than 2 runs. Jake Peavy was at one time one of the top pitchers in baseball, but age and injuries have slowed him down. He has had a great comeback season at 9-7 so far. He is entering uncharted waters as the veteran due to the injury plague and lack of effectiveness. He has not thrown more than 111 innings the last three seasons, and he is already up to 148 this year. His ERA through his first 52.1 innings was 1.89, but it has since been 3.67 in his last 95.2 innings and he may be suffering from fatigue at this point. Chen has kept them close in anticipated high-scoring games with the total set between 9 to 10.5. The Royals are 15-7 when he takes the hill. Peavy and the White Sox are just 1-5 when he starts following a quality start in his previous outing. Play on Kansas City.
