Are the Giants a team of destiny? Maybe, as they needed to win six consecutive elimination games just to make it here. They have a tall task tonight against one of baseball's best pitchers in Justin Verlander. There are however, a few chinks in the armor. Verlander dazzled at home where he compiled a 9-2 mark with a near unhittable ERA of 1.65, but the road wasn't quite so easy. The Tigers were just 8-6 as he pitched to an ERA of 3.57, nearly 2 full runs higher. The Tigers could also be rusty, closing out the Yankees early and earning a week off. They have not been so potent with Verlander on the hill with seven day’s rest, as the Tigers are just 2-5 in his last seven starts. The Giants have waited a long time to get some dividends from Barry Zito, but he is delivering the goods. The Giants are 13-0 in Zito's last 13 starts, and over the last six he has put together a nifty 2.20 ERA. The Giants are also 8-0 behind Zito in his last eight starts as a dog. The Giants are poised for the game one upset. Play on San Francisco.
