The Yankees won Game 4 and earned the right to turn this into a 1-game series at home. At the beginning of the season, they were considered vulnerable with their very suspect starting pitching. While C.C. Sabathia anchored a staff full of question marks, they have gotten a quick maturation from Ivan Nova. The Yankees felt Nova may not be ready as in his first 12 starts the Yankees were just 6-6, and he was demoted to Scranton. They let him work for about a month down there, and he returned in full stride. Nova has since been the Yankees ace. Sabathia has struggled late into the season, while Nova has led the Yankees to a 14-3 mark since his return to the big leagues. Nova had one bad start and 16 good ones, having become an elite pitcher. Doug Fister was the Tigers hottest pitcher down the stretch, but he was unable to solve the Yankees’ lineup, and was hit hard in Game 1. The Tigers’ last win in a series finale was all the way back in the 1968 World Series! It will be all hands on deck as Joe Girardi will have C.C. Sabathia working out of the pen and Mariano Rivera available for at least two innings. The Yanks are in their sweet spot behind Nova and a total set from 9-10.5 where they are 21-6 in his last 27 starts. The Yankees are 8-2 to the UNDER after a win. Over the past two seasons, the Tigers are 35-19 UNDER when facing an AL team that scores 5.2+ runs per game. They are also 28-17 UNDER this season following back-to-back OVERs. With Fister on the mound this season in the underdog role, Detroit is 14-6 UNDER. He's 13-5 UNDER in night games this season as well. With the quality available behind the starters tonight (Verlander, Rivera, and Sabathia and more), the runs will be hard to come by. Play on like New York and take the UNDER in this one.
