Detroit was second in the AL Central last season, an improvement of 12 games from 2022. The Tigers have a terrific and reliable arm going in Tarik Skubal. He didn't make his debut last season until July 4 but was sharp, especially in September when he was AL Pitcher of the Month giving up just three runs over five starts. Detroit is on a 35-17 run in divisional play. Rebuilding Chicago is off a lousy 61-101 campaign, including 31-50 at home. The offense was 29th in the majors and last in the AL in runs scored, plus dead-last in all of baseball in on-base percentage. Garrett Crochet takes the mound and has never made an MLB start in his three-year career. He split time between Chicago and the minor leagues last season.
