The Tigers are closing in on Boston for the best record in the AL. This will be a decisive rubber match in the series, and right now the Red Sox have not looked like the team we saw build a comfortable lead in the AL East. Over their last 32 games vs. a winning team, Boston has posted just a 14-18 mark, and their offense has sputtered in this series by generating just 2 total runs. Ryan Dempster was supposed to bolster the Sox rotation, but he has been less than effective, especially at home where he has posted a 4.93 ERA in 17 starts. The Tigers have beaten up on soft pitching where they own a 46-22 mark in their last 68 when facing a pitcher with a WHIP of over 1.30. The Tigers have had the upper hand of late vs. Boston, taking five of the last seven meetings. Play on Detroit in this one.
