The Los Angeles Dodgers opened the season looking like the best team in the NL. That has changed dramatically, as the blue and white were just swept at home by Arizona, and over their last 39 games they are 14-25. The Cubs have certainly played hard when they could have mailed the rest of the season in, as they were never in contention for any post-season appearances. The Cubs have played their best baseball of the season, having gone 19-12 in their last 31 games. Jeff Samardzija has been a big reason for the Cubs’ recent success, as he has not allowed more than 3 runs in any of his last five starts. The Cubs have beaten up a pitcher with a WHIP over 1.30 at 6-1 in their last seven.
