While the slow start of the Chicago Cubs has been expected, the slow start of the Cincinnati Reds was not. Cincinnati comes into this game at just 12-14 on the season, and a pedestrian 5-5 at home. The Cincinnati offense has left a lot of men on base, and over their last three games they have produced all of 4 runs. Edwin Jackson has something to build off, as he retired 17 of the last 18 hitters he faced his last time out, and owns a career 3.03 ERA against the Reds in his last six starts, good for a 3-1 career mark. Cingrani is 1-2 with a 4.39 ERA in five meetings with the Cubs, and has not fared well against them. The Cubs have fared well for a bad team vs. left-handed pitching where they rise above what they are as a whole at 12-5 in their last 17 when facing a southpaw. Back the Cubs.
