I beleive we are getting great value here with Greg Maddux on the mound. It seems that while others lose their pace and movement on their pitches when they get older, Maddux simply seems to get better with age. The veteran is now a perfect 5-0 this season as he has been near perfect in each and every one of his outings. Facing the Cardinals twice and the team with the best record in baseball in the Cincinatti Reds, Maddux has been able to maintain a 1.35 ERA. It is even more impressive that he has yet to yield more than two runs to any one of these teams. He has consistently done what is expected of him by Dusty Baker. The formula has been simple in Maddux's starts as he goes in 6 innings and gives up a few scattered hits and 2 runs or less and bullpen comes in and shuts down the opposing team. Maddux could very well pick up his first loss soon, but I don't think it will be today against the Diamondbacks. The Cubs are 9-2 in their last 11 road games as a favorite and a perfect 5-0 when Maddux is on the mound facing winning teams. Batista is inconsistent as he currently has over a 6 ERA and the Diamondbacks are 0-3 in his last 3 starts as a home underdog. Mad Dog has been perfect so far this season, so let's see if he can work his magic again as he has done it against tougher teams than the Diamondbacks.
