Boston lost a tough 1-0 decision at Oakland yesterday, but look for the Red Sox to bounce back behind Drew Pomeranz, who has not allowed more than than three runs his last six starts. The left-hander was 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA in August, and now he faces his former teammates in San Diego. Edwin Jackson is 3-5 with a 6.26 ERA overall this season, and he has been pounded his last three starts giving up 18 runs and 23 hits in only 11 2/3 innings with the Padres losing all three games by a combined score of 27-5. Jackson allowed five runs and seven hits in just 2 2/3 innings at Atlanta on Tuesday. Boston has won the first game of a series 16 of the last 21 times, and the Padres have lost eight of their last 10 against left-handed starters and 13 of their last 17 interleague home games. Play the Red Sox.
