Boston suffered a heartbreaking loss on Friday when Josh Donaldson delivered an RBI single in the 11th inning to give New York a 6-5 victory on its Opening Day. Nick Pivetta will try to get the Red Sox their first win and he had a good April last year when he was 3-0 with a 2.81 ERA and .175 opponent batting average. Pivetta also pitched better on the road than at home and finished with a 9-8 record overall. Luis Severino pitched only four games in 2021 as he was recovering from an injury and he didn't pitch at all the previous season.
