Boston snapped a five-game loss streak with a 9-5 win over the Royals, who have lost seven of their past eight home games. Alex Verdugo tripled, doubled and singled for the Red Sox as they cling to their playoff hopes and can't afford many losses the rest of the way. Chris Sale has made four starts since coming off the injured list and he has given the Red Sox four or five innings and they have won two of them. Sale has allowed 11 earned runs in 18 2/3 innings and only two Kansas City and all but two Kansas City hitters will seeing him for the first time. Boston's bullpen is tied for #8 in MLB with 40 saves. Taylor Clarke will make his second start for the Royals and likely will go just a couple innings. Kansas City is 24-44 at home this season.
