The Baltimore Orioles and the Toronto Blue Jays are both improved teams, making the AL East the most potent division in baseball. Their problems lie in that fact that as Boston, Tampa Bay, and New York are all playoff-caliber teams, so despite the improvements, it likely won't show in the standings. The Blue Jays lost yesterday despite swatting four home runs. Jason Hammel paid immediate dividends in helping to bolster a pedestrian rotation for the Birds, flirting with a no-hitter in his debut and ending up allowing 1 run on 2 hits. The Orioles’ bats have held their own vs. a pitcher with a WHIP of less than 1.15 as they have won five straight, while the Jays are 2-5 vs a pitcher with a WHIP of 1.15 or less. Play on Baltimore.
