Baltimore at Tampa Bay

Premium Pick

A pair of starters with similar numbers as well as similar overall offensive numbers meet in Tampa Bay, yet the home team is a big favorite. The Rays are not a powerhouse offensive team at close to .500 at home ranked No. 14 in runs scored, No. 25 in batting average and in the middle of the pack in OBP and slugging. The Tampa Bay offense has scored just 11 runs the last five games (four losses). They face a good arm in Baltimore’s Alfred Simon. Simon has allowed four runs and recorded 14 strikeouts over 15 innings in his last two starts and has a 1.93 ERA against the Rays this season. Tampa Bay starter Wade Davis (4.52 ERA) entered the season with a lot of promise, but hasn't been able to live up to expectations. Davis suffered a loss Monday as the Rays fell to the Blue Jays, 7-3. He pitched 4.1 innings and allowed six runs, nine hits and three walks. He is 2-2 with a 5.96 ERA against the Orioles this season, allowing 37 base runners in 22+ innings. Throw in the fact that the Rays are 1-4 in their last five home games and the Orioles have more than enough to steal a win or keep this real close. Play the Orioles on the run line.
