Oakland Athletics vs San Diego Padres

Oakland started the season not looking good, but looking better than they did a year ago. The A's were actually 17-17 through 34 games, and then suddenly the progress stopped, and the wheels have come off. Since that time the A's have looked a lot like last year's team. Oakland is just 9-24 in their last 33 games. The San Diego Padres have been around a .500 team all season, and can't seem to get a run going. This could be the perfect opponenet to get this team at home, and play up. They will head to NY and take on the Mets after this series, where they believe they can win too. Oakland has shown nothing, and with San Diego having a good shot to get their season turned around vs. a pair of weaker teams is incentive enough. Make the play on San Diego.

It's too little too late as far as making the playoffs is concerned, but San Diego has won three in a row and goes for the sweep of the Athletics following a 5-2 win on Saturday. Juan Soto hit a sacrifice fly and drew a bases-loaded walk to help Matt Waldron get his first major league win and the Padres will send Nick Martinez to the mound today to start what likely will be a bullpen game. Joe Boyle will make his big league debut for the Athletics after making only three starts in Triple-A where he went 0-2 with a 2.25 ERA. Oakland has lost five of seven and once again has the worst record in MLB with 102 losses and the Athletics have lost 43 of their past 60 interleague games.
