Top pick: #4 (ON THE RIVER) (9-2) - Well bred colt has been razor sharp 3-2-0-1 since switching back to real dirt in early October. Speed/stalker ran a career best when he won facing weaker here Nov. 29. Trainer Dave Hinsley moves him up in class but I still like his chances.
2nd pick: #5 (One Buck Roma) (4-1) - He's one of two entered by trainer Gerald Bennett and the pair race uncoupled. Racing off a 7-week freshening, he finished a close up third last out for a $25K tag. Barn has put four excellent works into him and he should be involved every step.
3rd pick: #9 (Kadillac Charm) (6-1) - Gelding is racing first off a Jane Cibelli and a subsequent three month layoff. He's accomplished going longer distances, but fits on figures and has leading rider Gallardo aboard.
4th pick: #1 (Rope a Dope) (10-1) - He was claimed in late November at Churchill by trainer Ian Wilkes for $35K. Barn has freshened him up since, had him gelded, and he has some fast works showing for his return.
5th pick: #2 (Freestyler) (4-1) - Strong finisher rallied to win here at this level going 7-furlongs Dec. 31. It was his first start in 3 1/2 months and this 5-year-old was bred to have talent. Stretch threat.
