Top pick: #8 (ONE TIME ONLY) (2-1) - Filly just missed at this level going 6 furlongs at Belmont park on July 13th. Speed/stalker had a fine record in California facing "open" company before heading east and holds a class edge on this field. Daughter of "Lemon Drop Kid" has run well at this mile trip in the past and is the horse to beat.
2nd pick: #5 (Distorted Beauty) (8-5) - Lightly-raced filly has been sharp in all four starts, two each on turf and dirt. Daughter of Breeders' Cup Classic winner "Invasor," she finished second here at this level on July 26th. It was her first ever around two-turns and a repeat of it makes her a strong win candidate.
3rd pick: #1 (Lady Candidate) (8-1) - Speedy mare has been freshened up since early June at Belmont when she was claimed by trainer Mike Maker for $20,000. A stakes winner on "poly," she's yet to win on the grass, but her early speedy must be respected.
4th pick: #2 (Caribean Beat) (6-1) - No-speed type exits the same July 26th race as "Distorted Beauty" and was almost four lengths back of her at the finish. Rounding into form following a half-year's absence and a stretch threat.
