It was his first race since Jan. 25, and he probably needed the start for conditioning purposes. From the barn of Chad Brown, he gets a slight edge in a contest in a competitive contest.
2nd pick: #9 (Strike That) (3-1) - Speedy sort has gone 5-3-2-0 to date and races today following a three-month freshening. He finished 2nd last out at Oaklawn to very talented 'Volatile' and is a win candidate today in this spot.
3rd pick: #5 (Chateau) (4-1) - Veteran speed-ball ships from Monmouth where he tired to miss by nine lengths in a five-furlong sprint stakes July 3. It was his first race since March at Aqueduct where he was an easy winner by 3.5 lengths at this level. He won here last year at this distance, and it's noted that Irad Ortiz, Jr. takes the mount.
4th pick: #6 (Zoomer) (6-1) - Consistent 4yo had a very wide trip when missing by 5.5 lengths going seven furlongs at this level July 4. Strong finisher was racing first off a Bob Klesaris claim and is a late threat if the pace is fast and/or contested.
