A 4yo daughter of 'City Zip,' she rallied to miss by a 'head' going seven furlongs at Belmont May 24 in her first race since Oct. 3. She broke her maiden here by eight lengths at this trip Aug. 31 and will be tough in this spot.
2nd pick: #2 (Way Smart) (5-1) - Veteran trainer Jim Bond had a great meet at Belmont and has carried it over to Saratoga. He's gone 20-5-3-0 (25%) so far at the Spa, and he brings this lightly raced mare back off a Dec. 1 layoff. Competitive in all eight starts, she finished close up in a pair during the 2018 meet at this level and distance. Training steadily locally. Bond has Jose Ortiz signed on.
3rd pick: #3 (Star of the East) (8-1) - A lightly raced 4yo by 'Medaglia d'Oro,' she rallied to break her maiden going a mile at Belmont July 7. Competitive in three of four, her only sub par effort came on a rain soaked course May 16. Filly has room for upside, and I think she'll factor at a square price.
4th pick: #6 (Discreet Image) (15-1) - Veteran mare is racing second back following almost a nine-month layoff. She defeated $40,000 'open' claimers here at this trip Sept. 2 and is back in with fellow state breds for this attempt.
5th pick: #1 (Moyne Spun) (20-1) - This well bred 3yo broke her maiden by 2.5 lengths going a mile at Belmont July 5 facing $40K state bred foes. Claimed that afternoon by Brad Cox, 12 for 48 (25%) with that angle in 2018-19, this daughter of 'Hard Spun' is clearly improving, has the rail, and her early speed makes her a 'live' longshot.
