Bet this race at Diamond SportsTop pick: #5 (BIG WONDER) (5-2) - This veteran speed/stalker drops in class after four straight efforts facing tougher. He tired after dueling through fast fractions here July 25 against $50K starter-allowance foes, and I give him a slight edge.
2nd pick: #2 (Future Book) (8-1) - This longshot is cutting back in distance after a wide trip when beaten by 5.5 lengths here at this level while going 8.5 furlongs July 31. He's one of three 3yos entered, has the rail, and Irad Ortiz, Jr. is back aboard following a two-race absence. I believe he's dangerous at a square price.
3rd pick: #4 (Wild William) (6-1) - He's dropping back down after a troubled trip here at this trip facing tougher on July 22. 5yo finished 3rd at this level June 28 at Belmont, and he broke his maiden at the Spa a year ago. Trainer Jim Bond is having a great meet (27-7-5-4), and this gelding must be left in the mix.
4th pick: #8 (Jack of Clubs) (5-1) - He tired badly going seven furlongs when facing tougher July 11 at Belmont. A homebred by 'Curlin,' he had broken his maiden there in his first ever on the grass June 14 in what was his first race in 7.5 months. In a claimer today with blinkers on, he can't be eliminated.
