Top pick: #2 (WEST HILLS GIANT) (7-5) - Son of "Frost Giant" is the only horse entered with a win on this course and is also the only one with a stakes win in the grass. Last out he ran third at Finger Lakes in the $160K "New York Derby" and will be moving back on to the turf. The horse to beat.
2nd pick: #5 (Captain Gaughen) (4-1) - Grey colt finished second to "Giant" two back at Belmont, then raced very wide when finishing fourth here in an allowance on July 20th. Fits nicely with these and son of "Disco Rico" has a shot at a "mild" upset.
3rd pick: #3 (Orion ) (12-1) - Very lightly-raced gelding broke his maiden at Belmont going 7 furlongs on June 15th, then ran evenly when almost four lengths back of "Giant" last out. Stabled locally since late May, this will be his first attempt around two-turns.
4th pick: #1 (Old Pal of Mine) (7-2) - Louisiana-bred has improved dramatically since coming off an eight month break on May 11th. Strong finisher was working fast before shipping north and gelding had a get-acquainted local work on Aug. 1. This is a big step up in class, but his latest "figures" put him in this.
