Top pick: #5 (DUKE OF PERTH) (8-1) - English import raced evenly here at this level going 8.5-furlongs July 18. It was his first in North America, first in 9 1/2 months, and first for trainer Todd Wyatt. Both blinkers and Lasix are added today, and this 4yo ran well at this 1 1/2 mile trip in England (3-0-2-1). Has a shot at pulling off an upset.
2nd pick: #4 (Bingo Kitten) (2-1) - Lightly raced Ramsey home bred by "Kitten's Joy" seems the type that can "run all day" and should love this 12-furlong distance. Colt by "Kitten's Joy" rallied to finish fourth here going shorter on July 18, and trainer Mike Maker has him making back-to-back starts for the first time since last fall.
3rd pick: #3 (My Afleet) (3-1) - Another that's lightly raced, speed/stalker comes off a career best when he set a pressured pace and held "gamely" to finish second here at this level going 11-furlongs July 18. Grey gelding has been sharp in all four starts since moving to the grass and should be involved from start-to-finish.
4th pick: #8 (Alakazan Alakazan) (7-2) - Brazilian import has talent and hails from a very "hot" barn (Graham Motion). Nicely bred colt raced both wide and evenly here at this level on July 19 and appears to be another that will enjoy this extended distance. It's nice to see him stringing starts together, and another plus is John Velazquez staying aboard.
