Top pick: #3 (SOUTH SOUND) (5-2) - Grey filly hasn't raced since June 12 when she was beaten a "head" at Belmont going seven-furlongs facing tougher. Trainer Jay Servis drops her down in class and will shorten her up a furlong. The horse to beat.
nd pick: #4 (Saucon Valley) (4-1) - Lightly raced filly by "City Zip" raced both wide & evenly in a grass sprint here July 23. Trainer Chad Brown brings her back quickly, switches her from turf to dirt, and has her in a claimer for the first time. Strong win threat.
rd pick: #5 (Mononoke) (3-1) - This is her ninth attempt at this 2l condition, but she's been competitive in three straight at Belmont racing at this level. Stalker was run down in the final furlong after opening a clear lead last out, and must be left in the mix.
th pick: #7 (Little Gidding) (7-2) - Churchill invader is well bred, lightly raced, and will be dropping to a new low in this spot. Daughter of "Mineshaft" fits nicely with these and one run type draws outside of the speed. Stretch threat.
th pick: #2 (Soul Opposition) (15-1) - Longshot is the only filly entered who has won here in the past. New York bred broke her maiden going seven-furlongs last August but has not been competitive in seven starts since then. She's racing third back from a pair of layoffs and ran evenly last out after being "bumped" heavily at the break. Could grab a share of this at a big price.
