Top pick: #6 (COMPETITIVE EDGE) (7-5) - He was reported to be the most advanced of trainer Todd Pletcher's 2yos coming into this meet and left quite an impression when debuting here July 26. $750K colt from the first crop of "Super Saver" broke sharply from his outside post, sprinted well clear, and coasted home to win by almost 11-lengths while running the six-furlongs in 1:09.80. Training fast since and he's the horse to beat.
2nd pick: #5 (I Spent It) (2-1) - Undefeated (two for two), colt is also by "Super Saver," and he drew off to win the G2 "Saratoga Special" here on Aug. 10. He overcame a difficult trip that afternoon and showed a lot of "grit" & "gameness." He continues to work fast and must be left under consideration.
3rd pick: #3 (Requite) (5-1) - Another colt who was reported to have ability, he was bet down to favoritism when debuting here on Aug. 9. He broke running and went gate-to-wire to win by 3 1/2 lengths while completing the 5.5-furlongs in 1:04.40. Barn (George Weaver) has had an exceptional meet, and this colt obviously has talent.
