Bet this race at Diamond SportsTop pick: #7 (DISCRETIONARY MARQ) (5-1) - New York bred was a gate-to-wire winner going 6 furlongs at Belmont when facing optional-$80K claimers/N1X foes June 26. It was his first start since Nov. 30 and first following a private trainer change to Bob Falcone Jr. A home bred 5yo, he's finished second in both previous local attempts and I give him a slight edge.
2nd pick: #9 (Fully Vested) (2-1) - A Godolphin home bred, he rallied to finish second facing weaker going 5 furlongs on the Monmouth grass June 8. It was his first back following a pair of layoffs, his first ever on the turf, and he's a strong win candidate in this spot.
3rd pick: #4 (Pagliacci) (5-2) - A gelding by Pioneer of the Nile', he rallied from close range to win by a 'nose' going 6 furlongs at Belmont facing $50,000 claimers at the 3l condition July 4. It was his second back after a pair of breaks and he was claimed that day by Linda Rice. New barn wins at a solid 28% rate first off the claim and this consistent 5yo is in the win mix.
4th pick: #6 (Tibr) (6-1) - A lightly raced 5yo gelding by 'Disttorted Humor', he finished third in a small field(6) sprinting at Belmont June 28. This is a much tougher group and he'll need to do much better for anything more than a minor award.
