Top pick: #1 (RANGEY) (5-2) - The probable favorite, grey gelding just failed to hold on July 13th at Belmont when racing at this tag going 6-furlongs. Solid effort came off almost a 10-month layoff and trainer Jeremiah Englehart has given him a month to recover. 5yo by "Mizzen Mast" has the best early speed, breaks from the rail, and has run well on this course in the past (2-1-0-1).
2nd pick: #8 (Papa Tom) (12-1) - Longshot saved ground early and rallied mildly to finish fourth in the same last race as "Rangey." He was just under two back of that rival at the finish in what was his second back from a two month break. The faster the pace, the better his chances.
3rd pick: #5 (Cap'n Raymond) (4-1) - Mid-Atlantic shipper is a career grass sprinter (17-2-4-3) and has been extra sharp in both turf starts this year. Stalker fits with his best and this field isn't that strong for the level. Stretch threat.
4th pick: #2 (Slamarama) (20-1) - Another longshot, he has more early speed than most and wasn't beaten much here at this level and distance July 25th. He has a better post today and has done his best work on this course (3-1-1-0). Don't just dismiss.
