Top pick: #5 (MR. STYLE) (8-5) - Speedy gelding tired badly after setting a pressured pace here on Aug. 1, going a mile on the grass for a $35K tag. The race was his first off a pair of layoffs and trainer Mile Dilger brings him back quickly and with a lot of changes. He drops him to a new low, switches him back to dirt, adds blinkers, and cuts him back in distance.
2nd pick: #8 (Blockade Runner) (3-1) - Debuting Ramsey home-bred ships in from Kenticky where he's worked a half-dozen times since June 22nd. The drills are fast, and he runs for a potent trainer/jockey team of Mike Maker/Joel Rosario (34% over the past 19 months).
3rd pick: #4 (Velocci) (6-1) - Freshened up since June 6th, gelding finished an even third that day racing at Belmont. Nice effort was a career best and this 3-year-old has a sharp 4-furlong work on this surface on Aug. 3.
4th pick: #6 (Navajo Ca Lo) (6-1) - No-speed type ran an even fourth here at this tag going 9 furlongs July 28th. The race was his first off a seven week freshening and the Zito barn will cut him back in distance. Can factor, but will need some pace help for anything more than a small slice.
