Top pick: #2 (ROMAN FIRE) (3-1) - Well bred, speedy, and lightly raced, 4-year-old has been freshened up since tiring at Belmont facing tougher June 19. A useful effort, it was his first since May 14 of 2014. Son of 'Roman Ruler' looks poised to go gate-to-wire against this paceless field.
2nd pick: #1 (Matuszak) (5-2) - Beautifully bred 4-year-old is the morning line favorite. Strong finisher exits the same June 19 race as 'Roman Fire' and he ran evenly while finishing 3 1/2 back of that rival. Working fast, has the rail, and is a win candidate.
3rd pick: #4 (It'll be Fine) (10-1) - No speed type is dropping back down and moving from turf to dirt. Fits with his best, but his lack of any speed hurts his chances. Three-year-old needs some pace help for anything more than a small slice.
4th pick: #6 (Marine One) (5-1) - Another that's dropping down and going turf to dirt. Both wins have come on the dirt and this 3-year-old by 'Malibu Moon' must be left in the mix.
