Top pick: #6 (BRILLIANT JEWEL) (3-1) - Beautifully bred filly has been competitive in all but one of her seven starts and last out at Belmont she missed by a 1/2 length when racing at this level, going 6.5-furlongs. California based trainer John Shirreffs has done well here (5-2-1-0) with a small string sent east, and the extra 1/6th this daughter of "A.P. Indy" travels in this spot can get her the maiden win.
2nd pick: #7 (Ridingwiththedevil) (2-1) - Speedy filly was a "neck" better than "Brilliant Jewel" at Belmont on June 26th in her first start in 12 1/2 months. Daughter of "Candy Ride" has finished second in three of four races on conventional dirt and is an obvious win candidate.
3rd pick: #9 (Southbound Swinger) (12-1) - Lightly-raced home bred goes turf-to-dirt and stretches out a furlong for this attempt. Filly by "Distorted Humor" rallied to finish fourth when going 6-furlongs on the Belmont turf on July 3rd and she's a price play if she can handle the dirt.
4th pick: #8 (Alexis Inspires) (8-1) - She took some money in her debut on a muddy surface at Churchill on June 20th and raced evenly after a hesitating at the break. Race had a strong field for the level and it's noted that she's working well locally and has John Velazquez aboard.
5th pick: #2 (Snowbell) (15-1) - Darley home bred has been a disappointment to date and will be going turf-to-dirt and shortening up a bit in distance. She has some finishing ability and could grab a share at a big price if the pace is fast and/or contested.
