Bet this race at Diamond SportsTop pick: #9 (FOLLOW THE SIGNS) (6-5) - The probable favorite, he's dropping into a claimer for the first time, a strong 38% winning move by trainer Chad Brown. Colt finished a close up and troubled fourth here facing tougher Aug. 6. Along with the drop, Brown is adding blinkers (24%). Son of 'Colonel John' will be very tough to beat in today's finale.
2nd pick: #8 (There He Goes) (9-2) - $175,000 purchase has sharp early speed and is racing third back from a 7.5 month layoff. He's clearly improving and trainer Danny Gargan has John Velazquez aboard for the first time.
3rd pick: #4 (O Captainmycaptain) (5-1) - Very lightly-raced, he's had excuses in both career starts. Gelding raced evenly here after 'hitting the gate' at the break facing $75,000 'open' maidens here Aug. 2. Trainer Rudy Rodriguez drops him down, adds blinkers, and has Irad Ortiz Jr. back aboard following a one race absence. Dangerous today.
4th pick: #5 (Jegos Fire) (6-1) - He's become a much better horse since switching to the barn of Ray Handal this past spring. Competitive in four straight at this level on the grass, he can grab a share, but needs to a bit better for a shot at the top prize.
