Top pick: #8 (CLEARLY NOW) (8-5) - Colt by "Hard Spun" ran a huge figure when he was a convincing winner of the G3 "Belmont Sprint" at this 7-furlong distance July 5th. He set a track record that day and it ran his record at this trip to 7-3-1-3. Four-year-old has been training steadily at trainer Brian Lynch's homebase of Woodbine and he'll be very tough to beat with anything resembling his latest.
nd pick: #6 (Palace) (3-1) - Wonderful veteran became a G1 winner when taking the local G1 "Alfred Vanderbilt Hdcp." going 6-furlongs on Aug. 2. His record on the dirt is amazing 17-9-5-2 and on this course he's 4-2-0-2. Son of "City Zip" was no match when finishing second to "Clearly Now" at Belmont July 5th, but has both a recency and local edge.
rd pick: #7 (Falling Sky) (8-1) - Longshot has carved out a sold career at 14-5-1-2 and last out rallied to finish third in the G1 "Vanderbilt," 3 1/2 lengths behind "Palace." It's nice to see this middle-distance specialist stringing starts together and two of his previous wins have come at this trip.
th pick: #9 (Weekend Hideway) (12-1) - New York bred steps way up in class, but is in career best form at present. A multiple stakes winner facing state-breds, he ran a career best when winning the $100K "Morrissey" here going 6.5-furlongs Aug. 15. Stalker draws a nice post and should get a fast and/or contested pace to rally into.
th pick: #10 (Confrontation) (15-1) - Lightly-raced, he has talent 7-5-1-1 and is undefeated (3-for-3) here at the "Spa." Speed/stalker overcame a trouble start to defeat weaker here at this distance on Aug. 8, earning him a career best "figure." Don't just dismiss.
