Top pick: #4 (CORNHUSKER) - English-bred colt started his career in France and although he didn't win in four starts he was competitive twice and came to North America sometime late in the fall or in early winter. Son of "Dynaformer" was with a very good barn in Europe (Andre Fabre) and is now in the versatile stable of veteran Tom Voss. Four-year-old was an easy winner of his jumping debut in late April at the Fairfax meet in Virginia, and finished second in his latest facing tougher in a "chase" contest at Philly Park. Has good "flat" speed and is the horse to beat.
2nd pick: #8 (Demonstrative) - Another runner who's very well bred, this one's spent the early part of his career racing in England. Was competitive in all but one of five starts overseas and has really taken to the jumping game since he was converted last fall. He's won two stakes races and in six starts since that time and comes into this off an easy win at Belmont in a $50K stakes July 3. The probable favorite and a very tough horse to beat.
3rd pick: #2 (Straight to It) - Races coupled in the wagering with No. 2b "Alltogether" and he would appear to be the better of the two geldings. Five-year-old by "Giant's Causeway" finished second in a stakes at Colonial Downs in late June, but earlier this year finished well back of Demonstrative when they meet in Virginia. Improving and should be in it from start to finish.
